Alberta Culture Days offers free, participatory events and programs that invite the public to discover, experience and celebrate the arts and culture in their communities. Once again, Alberta Culture Days has been extended beyond the traditional weekend to a 4-week interactive, immersive arts and culture experience taking place for the entire month of September. Theatre; Just Because Workshop: World Building and Improv

What happens when two very different one-man shows are accidentally double-booked on the same stage? One’s an overly serious, self-important autobiography, and the other’s a wacky, irreverent musical comedy revue. Who will win the battle for the spotlight?

With a developing bromance, amazing one-liners, and songs that are sure to get stuck in your head, this show is a very, very, very funny must-see!

Swamp Rat Experience Presents: Play in a Day

Rehearsals: Saturday September 17

Performance: Saturday September 17, 2022
Doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7:00pm

Put your creative hats on – it’s time to have some theatre fun!

Get a group together and set out to create a Play in a Day, from idea to stage! Participating groups write, direct, and act in a play created in 24 hours.

Participants will be given a theme, a prop, and a costume piece that needs to be included in the finished play. On the day of, they will have access to rehearsal space and support by SRE theatre artists. Play in a Day finishes off with a free performance in front of friends, family, and celebrity YMM judges!

  • Friday, September 16 at 7 PM: Participants receive the theme, prop and costume piece in the SECPA lobby
  • Saturday, September 17, 10 AM – 6 PM: Rehearsal spaces and SRE support available at SECPA
  • Saturday, September 17, 7 PM: Free performance at SECPA where celebrity YMM judges give out awards

A few simple rules:

~You are not allowed to use published scripts. Only new works accepted.
~This is a family friendly event.
~Performances must be between 10 and 30 minutes in length.

Balloon Moose Studio Family Fun Balloon Workshop

Learn basic balloon twisting/decor!
In class, participants will learn how to make a balloon dog & Octopus sculpture. Every participant will receive balloons and pump to bring home.

The Fort McMurray Bengali Association will be joining us to present a beautiful program of songs and dances from the last fifty years of Bengali cinema.

Bengali cinema, just like any other movie art of the world, always represented a candid photo of the present society, portrayed dreams Bengalis who are known to be the most romantic and artistic human beings of the world.

We have gathered today, from different parts of West Bengal and brought together bits and pieces of our growing up with the melodies of old Bengali movies.

Fort McMurray Bengali Association presents a Confluence of our thoughts, our childhood memories, our growing up and above all, our love for our culture through this beautiful, romantic musical performance.

Meet Nakota. A young boy who is sick in the hospital and trying to write the greatest story ever. One day, Grandpa Rocko comes over for a visit. Next thing Nakota knows, he is whisked away into a world of stories that are right below his feet. Within the land. Join Anishinaabe playwright, theatre creator, and educator Josh Languedoc for this free workshop exploring Indigenous theatre creation involving movement, writing, and conversations through circle gathering and discussion.

On the second day of Indigenous Theatre Creation workshops, Josh will guide participants through discussion and exploration of Indigenous theatre creation and circle based rehearsal processes. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Please register beforehand as spaces are limited.

Stars of the Oilsands Rotary Music Festival


Monday September 26 & Tuesday September 27, 2022

For over 45 years the annual Oilsands Rotary Music Festival, which is an Alberta Music Festival Association member, has provided workshops and performance opportunities for amateur music students in Fort McMurray and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.  During the festival, performers perform onstage for an audience and professional adjudicators from other communities.  Performers in certain disciplines can be recommended to perform in the Alberta Provincial Festival.  As well, from that Festival they may be recommended to the Canada West Festival.
